Product Development Assistant
Purpose of the Role
This role supports the full lifecycle of new product development, ensuring specifications, samples, packaging and supplier communication are handled with accuracy and efficiency. It is central to keeping projects organised, on track, and commercially prepared for launch. The position works closely with internal teams and external suppliers, covering every stage of development from initial design through to final production, set-up and launch.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development
- Create and update detailed product briefs and technical specification packs.
- Maintain spec sheets throughout development, ensuring accuracy and version control.
- Support development timelines, critical paths, and milestone tracking.
- Coordinate sample requests, track sample status, and manage approvals.
- Ensure the efficient organisation and labelling
- Conduct initial sample reviews for quality, construction, colour, and packaging fit.
Supplier Liaison
- Communicate with suppliers to gather product information and clarify specifications.
- Share updated spec packs, artwork, packaging requirements, and testing needs.
- Chase outstanding details and maintain organised records of communication.
Packaging Development
- Support creation and refinement of packaging specifications and artwork briefs.
- Work with suppliers on packaging prototypes, compliance requirements, and cost targets.
- Track packaging samples and approvals alongside product samples.
Product Set‑Up & Data Accuracy
- Create and maintain accurate product records, SKUs, attributes, dimensions, materials, and pricing.
- Ensure all product information is complete and aligned with merchandising, e‑commerce, and operations needs.
- Prepare product information packs for internal teams and retail partners.
Cross‑Functional Support
- Work closely with merchandising, operations, and marketing to ensure smooth product launches.
- Support the Head of Product with ad‑hoc development tasks during peak periods.
- Maintain organised sample libraries, packaging archives, and development documentation.
Skills & Experience
- 1–3 years’ experience in product development, buying, merchandising, or production (home, lifestyle, textiles, or consumer goods).
- Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Confident working with spec sheets, product data, and supplier communication.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficient in Excel and structured documentation.
