This role initially is all about the training to start with, although we do require you to have practical engineering skills as per the requirements. You’ll join one of our local regional teams, where you will spend the first circa 24 months on a training programme gaining experience on-site and, in the classroom, (with short stays away from home) building your skill base and safety authorisations needed to take the next big step.
Once you are qualified this is when things change. You will move into the Senior Authorised Person (SAP) role with an increase in base salary to £56,374 pa. As a Substation Engineer SAP you’ll lead teams of fitters and contractors on high voltage substation projects ensuring they are set to work in the correct manner, including the provision of risk assessments and method statements, and that toolbox talks take place. Managing, monitoring and reviewing progress on safety critical works. Undertake site delivery activities of projects as the appointed temporary works co-ordinator and principal contractor as defined in CDM regs, and helping keep the UK’s electricity network running smoothly. You’ll also join a standby rota for emergency call outs – earning additional payments for your expertise and availability.
