Site Technician – Construction Materials Testing

Role Overview
We are currently recruiting to expand our Site Technicians team at CTS Glasgow/ Edinburgh.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in the construction or materials testing industry. No previous materials testing experience is required, as full training will be provided.
You will be responsible for carrying out site-based testing and sampling activities, ensuring works are completed safely, accurately, and in line with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out site-based testing of construction materials including concrete, aggregates, soils, and asphalt
- Collect, label, and prepare samples for laboratory analysis
- Accurately record test results using company systems and documentation
- Liaise with site teams, clients, and internal colleagues to coordinate testing schedules
- Maintain, clean, and calibrate testing equipment
- Adhere to all health & safety requirements, including correct use of PPE
- Support senior technicians and engineers with quality and technical matters
Daily Duties
- Attend construction sites to complete routine testing and sampling
- Complete field reports and submit results in a timely manner
- Ensure equipment is clean, calibrated, and ready for use
- Report any non-conformances or site issues to senior staff
- Assist with sample transport and logistics to laboratories
- Maintain high standards of site safety and professionalism
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- No previous materials testing experience required – full training provided
- Experience working on construction sites or in a site-based role is desirable
- CSCS card is desirable/preferred
- Basic understanding of construction materials and processes is beneficial
- Knowledge of UKAS standards is advantageous but not essential
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Willingness to travel between sites
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong commitment to health & safety
Pay & Benefits
- Age 21 and over: £12.71 per hour (40 hours per week)
- Age 18–20: £10.85 per hour (40 hours per week)
- Overtime rates: Monday to Saturday: 1.3x, Sunday: 2.0x
