We are looking for a reliable and practical Maintenance Operative/Handyman to join our friendly team at our care home. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the home is safe, well-maintained, and comfortable for our residents, visitors, and staff.
This is a varied role that requires someone who is proactive, organised, and able to carry out general maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repair work throughout the care home.
- Undertake basic plumbing, painting, decorating, carpentry, and minor electrical tasks within your level of competence.
- Complete regular health and safety checks, including fire safety and water temperature monitoring.
- Ensure the building, equipment, fixtures, and fittings are maintained in good working order.
- Liaise with external contractors and supervise their work when required.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and management.
- Maintain the grounds and outdoor areas to a safe and tidy standard.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance work completed and report any major repairs required.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and care home policies.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, or facilities role.
- Good practical skills across a range of general maintenance tasks.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive and flexible approach to work.
- Understanding of the importance of maintaining a safe environment for vulnerable adults.
Desirable
- Experience working within a care home, healthcare, hospitality, or similar environment.
- Basic knowledge of fire safety procedures.
- Relevant maintenance qualifications or trade experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
