Animal Warden and Pest Control Officer - The Role:
You will join the Environmental Health Service as an Animal Warden and Pest Control Officer, working alongside a colleague in this role. Much of your work will be carried out independently from the field, dealing with animal welfare requests, pest control treatments, and enforcement activities. You will respond to complaints about stray dogs, dog fouling, and animal welfare concerns, as well as treating household pest infestations such as rodents, insects, and wasps. You will also provide advice to the public and other organisations on animal welfare and pest control matters.
Animal Warden and Pest Control Officer - Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce legislation relating to dogs, prepare notices and statements, and present evidence in court cases
- Collect, transport and arrange care for stray dogs, and participate in educational programmes on responsible dog ownership
- Carry out investigations of animal welfare complaints, compile reports and witness statements, and conduct enforcement activity
- Inspect animal welfare licensed premises, compile reports and undertake related enforcement
- Treat rodent and insect pest infestations in line with council standards, policies and procedures
- Keep accurate records, update computerised databases and maintain pest control stock control
- Survey land for pest infestations and provide advice on pest control matters
- Maintain the council vehicle provided in clean and tidy condition
Animal Warden and Pest Control Officer - You:
- Experience of working in a customer-focused environment
- Practical experience of catching and handling stray dogs
- A valid full driving licence
- Strong administrative skills to record work accurately
- Ability to use IT, including mobile phone apps, tablets and MS Outlook
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Excellent communication skills and awareness of community diversity
- Professional, self-confident, enthusiastic and reliable approach
- Able to climb stairs and ladders and lift equipment and animals as part of daily duties
- Flexible approach to work, including occasional out of hours duties
