Overview
As a Support Worker, you will provide high-quality, person-centred support to people living in their own homes. You will promote independence, choice and wellbeing while supporting individuals to achieve their personal goals and maintain the best possible quality of life.
You will work in line with company policies, current legislation and best practice under the guidance of the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Senior Support Workers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver person-centred support tailored to each individual's needs, preferences and goals.
- Promote independence and encourage individuals to develop daily living skills.
- Support individuals with day-to-day activities, helping them achieve the best possible quality of life.
- Encourage and support participation in hobbies, education, employment and community activities.
- Provide emotional support, actively listening and responding to individuals with empathy and respect.
- Support with practical tasks including meal preparation, budgeting, shopping, household tasks and maintaining a safe living environment.
- Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and care documentation.
- Monitor individuals' wellbeing and promptly report any changes or concerns to management.
- Identify and report risks, safeguarding concerns and incidents in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain accurate, clear and confidential records.
- Provide support during challenging situations, following agreed support strategies and risk management plans.
- Work positively with colleagues and external professionals to provide consistent, coordinated support.
- Support individuals to maintain relationships with family, friends and others who are important to them, where this is their choice.
- Work independently when supporting individuals in their own homes while maintaining regular communication with the wider team.
- Attend training and continue to develop your knowledge and skills to provide safe, effective support.
- Promote dignity, respect, equality and inclusion in everything you do.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Good written and spoken English.
- Good written communication and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, colleagues and healthcare professionals.
- Compassionate, patient and respectful approach.
- Calm, reliable and able to respond appropriately in changing situations.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Understanding of person-centred care and promoting independence.
- Ability to recognise, report and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and risks.
- Willingness to complete mandatory training and ongoing professional development.
Previous experience in care is welcomed but is not essential. We are looking for caring, reliable and motivated individuals who share our values. If you are new to care, we will provide full training, ongoing support and opportunities to gain recognised qualifications while you work.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Experience working in supported living, residential care or community support.
- Experience supporting people with mental health needs and/or additional support needs.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, safeguarding and positive behaviour support.
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
