The Specialist Electrical Group is an established electrical contracting group based at our own premises in Chiswell Green, St Albans. We turn over around £3m and we are building towards £5m. We deliver inspection, testing, remedial works and installation across commercial, residential, social housing and managed portfolios, and we invest properly in the systems and governance that support it.
We are creating the role of Electrical Compliance Manager because certification quality is now the single most important thing we control. Our clients, their insurers, their managing agents and our certification body all rely on the reports we issue. We want one experienced, technically authoritative person accountable for making sure every one of them is right.This is not a paperwork checking job. Key Responsibilities
- Checking that classification codes C1, C2, C3 and FI are applied consistently and are genuinely supported by what was found, and that they correctly drive the satisfactory or unsatisfactory outcome
- Checking that observations are specific and defensible, that they identify the location and the actual defect rather than repeating a stock phrase, and that they cite the right regulation of BS 7671
- Checking test results for internal consistency and plausibility, including continuity, insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance, RCD operating times and prospective fault current, and challenging any result that does not stand up
- Checking that the extent and limitations of the inspection are properly recorded, that agreed sampling is stated, and that the client was told about the limitations before the work started
- Returning work that is not good enough, with a clear written reason, and tracking rejection patterns by engineer so we can fix the cause rather than the symptom
- Running the escalation route for C1 dangerous conditions, from immediate notification and making safe through to the written warning and the record
documentation, regulations and scheme requirements.
- Assist with preparation for scheme assessments, internal audits and ISO / SSIP renewals (CHAS,
SafeContractor, Constructionline, etc.).
- Monitor certificate KPIs – turnaround times, rejection rates, outstanding items – and report to management.
Support continuous improvement of compliance processes, templates and digital workflows.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience in an electrical compliance, certification or technical administration role within an
electrical contractor, M&E business or similar.
- Strong working knowledge of BS 7671 (18th Edition) and the structure of electrical certificates (EIC,
MEIWC, EICR, etc.).
- Familiarity with scheme provider portals (NICEIC, NAPIT or equivalent).
- Excellent attention to detail – able to spot discrepancies and missing information at a glance.
- Confident communicator, comfortable challenging engineers and supervisors to get paperwork right
first time.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and job management / CRM systems.
- Well organised, self-motivated and able to manage a high volume of documentation under
deadlines.
Desirable:
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing), 2382 (18th Edition) or equivalent qualifications.
- Previous experience liaising directly with NICEIC / NAPIT assessors.
- Exposure to wider compliance frameworks – Health & Safety, ISO 9001, SSIP schemes, CDM.
- Experience with digital certification platforms (e.g. Easy Certificates, , SimPRO).
Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
