Locum Veterinary Surgeon – Mobile Consult-Only Role
Swadlincote & South Derbyshire (DE11 area)
Are you looking for a rewarding, low-stress veterinary role that offers genuine flexibility and a fantastic work-life balance?
We're a brand-new mobile veterinary practice launching in September 2026, and we're looking for a Locum Veterinary Surgeon to join us from 21st September 2026.
This is a unique opportunity to step away from the demands of a traditional practice and focus on what matters most—providing high-quality, compassionate veterinary care in the comfort of patients' own homes.
The Role
- Mobile, consult-only veterinary position
- Covering the Swadlincote and South Derbyshire (DE11) area
- Initially one shift every two weeks, with the potential to increase to weekly and eventually regular work as the practice grows
- Flexible start day – Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, depending on your availability
- Standard hours are 9:00am–5:00pm, but we're happy to adjust your working day to suit you, provided your contracted hours are completed
- 30-minute unpaid lunch break
- You'll begin your day at our office (based at my home) 30 minutes before your first appointment to prepare for the day. This time is fully paid.
- We pride ourselves on finishing on time—and often a little early.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll be providing veterinary care in patients' homes, including:
- Consultations
- Vaccinations
- Blood sampling
- Diagnostic testing (all laboratory work is sent to an external laboratory)
- Ultrasound examinations (if this is an area of interest)
Anything requiring anaesthesia or surgery will be referred to a trusted local veterinary practice.
Support
Although this is a sole charge role, you won't be completely on your own.
A veterinary nurse will be available to assist when needed—for example with blood sampling or patient restraint—but many appointments will be carried out independently.
What We're Looking For
- MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
- Confident working in a sole charge environment
- Full UK driving licence
- Access to your own vehicle
- A caring, compassionate approach with a passion for delivering stress-free veterinary care in patients' homes
Knowledge of the local area would be beneficial, although modern sat navs make this far less important!
Benefits
- Flexible working hours
- Low-stress, consult-only workload
- No surgery or anaesthetic responsibilities
- 55p per mile mileage reimbursement between appointments
- Opportunity to help shape a brand-new practice from the beginning
- Potential for a permanent employed position as the practice expands
Interested?
Even if this role doesn't match exactly what you're looking for, we'd still love to hear from you. We're keen to build a flexible team, so if there's something you'd like to discuss, please get in touch—we're always happy to see if we can make something work.
Pay: £45.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Free parking
- Transport links
Work Location: On the road
