ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Lead Bench/Assembly Joiner is a full-time, on-site role based at the UK Sash Company Ltd facility in Lytham St Anne's. This role involves leading bench joinery and assembly operations for timber sash windows, including measuring, cutting, and assembling components to precise specifications. The Lead Joiner oversees the use of hand tools and power tools, ensures high-quality finish carpentry, and maintains consistent production standards. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting technical drawings, organising workflow, mentoring and guiding junior joiners, and collaborating with production and quality teams to meet project deadlines. The role also requires monitoring safety practices, maintaining equipment, and contributing to process improvements in line with the company’s craftsmanship and performance standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Take ownership of the sash assembly stage: executing flawless mortise-and-tenon compression, gluing, pinning, and squaring frames under exact tolerances.
- Finalise detailing, including clean sash horn profiling, routing for weatherstripping, and high-quality bench sanding.
- Handle premium glazing workflows, ensuring precise rebate preparation, correct double-glazed unit spacing, and clean beading.
- Enforce Quality Control: Act as the "quality gate"—verifying that machined timber components match specifications perfectly before assembly begins.
- Working alongside and helping guide our first-year apprentice to ensure a smooth, efficient workflow down the line.
- Keep your bench and assembly area organised, clean, and professional.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Strong carpentry skills, including experience with framing and timber window or door assembly.
- Proficient use of hand tools and power tools in a workshop or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability in finish carpentry, delivering precise, high-quality joinery and detailing.
- Experience reading and working from technical drawings, measurements, and specifications.
- Previous experience in a lead or senior joiner role, with the ability to guide and support team members.
- Understanding of workshop health and safety practices and safe tool operation.
- Background in window manufacturing, heritage restoration, or high-end joinery is highly beneficial.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in carpentry/joinery, or equivalent practical experience.
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage workloads to meet production timelines.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Contracted 32 hours with provision to work up to 45 hours if delays or demand allow.
- Holidays are a standard 12.07% which normally equates to 28 days holidays for a 40 hour week
- A steady, secure, indoor full-time role in St. Anne's (no site travel, no fighting the weather).
- A highly organised workshop with modern, pre-profiled cutter blocks that make assembly a seamless, accurate process.
- Performance Pay Structure: We pay for performance. Once you are fully trained in our specific sequence and consistently hit our quality and speed metrics, your rate scales directly with your output.
Pay: £27,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
