Field Service Engineer – Diesel Engines & Pumps

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our client's growing operations team.
This is a hands-on, field-based position involving the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of diesel-driven pumping equipment at customer sites and within the depot.
The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical background and previous experience working with diesel engines. Pump experience is advantageous but full training on pump systems will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
- Install, service, maintain and repair diesel-driven pumping equipment.
- Attend customer sites to diagnose and resolve mechanical faults.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and routine servicing.
- Diagnose faults using a structured and practical approach.
- Respond to breakdowns and emergency call-outs.
- Complete repairs both on-site and within the depot.
- Provide professional technical support and advice to customers.
- Complete accurate service reports, job sheets and maintenance records.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and to the required standard.
- Follow company health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Maintain company tools, equipment and vehicle in good working order.
- Assist with depot activities, including stock takes and audits, when required.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider engineering team.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Overtime available when required.
- Participation in an on-call rota every third weekend, once fully trained.
- Regular travel between customer sites and the Derby depot.
About You
We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who is confident working independently in a field-based environment.
You should have:
- Experience working with diesel-driven engines – essential.
- A mechanical engineering background, ideally within plant, construction, HGV, generators, agricultural machinery or similar.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- A practical approach to problem-solving and repairs.
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise jobs effectively.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- A professional approach when working at customer sites.
- The ability to work safely and follow company procedures.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Flexibility to participate in the on-call rota once fully trained.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- Previous experience working with pumps or pumping systems.
- Experience within plant hire, machinery hire or heavy equipment.
- HNC, City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Experience with hydraulic or mechanical systems.
- Forklift licence.
- Towing licence.
Training & Development
Full training will be provided on the company's pumping equipment and systems.
You will receive ongoing technical support and development, giving you the opportunity to expand your existing mechanical engineering skills and develop specialist knowledge within the pumping industry.
