Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, friendly, professional gardener with good horticultural knowledge to join our small but growing team. Initially for a day a week, and flexible additional days, as we grow. Clean driving licence and own vehicle, plus able to be added to our insurance foe our van.
We are becoming known for being approachable and knowledgeable and working closely with our clients. We need someone who can build client trust quickly, able to quickly understand what they want from their garden and from us, and ensure our visits are both productive and positive.
We offer general garden maintenance, plant and lawn care, planting advice, planning design, maintenance, development and renovation of neglected or abandoned gardens.
The work can be cold, wet and muddy or dry, dusty and hot, and it can also be inspiring, peaceful, fun, beautiful and incredibly rewarding.
Responsibilities
- Use hand tools and (mostly electric) power tools to perform planting, pruning, trimming, and landscape maintenance tasks efficiently and safely
- Cultivate a variety of plants, shrubs, trees, and flowers with growing experience and horticultural best practices
- Conduct regular landscape inspections to identify issues such as pests, diseases, or damage, and take appropriate action
- Maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas by removing debris, weeds, and dead plant material to the standard agreed with the client, appropriate to the style and ethos of each garden
- Assist in planning and executing seasonal planting schemes and garden layouts in collaboration with the team
- Follow safety protocols when operating equipment or handling chemicals to ensure a safe working environment
- Drive the company electric van when needed
Experience
- Proven experience in gardening or landscape maintenance with hands-on knowledge of horticulture principles, RHS Level 2 would be valuable but not essential. On the job training will be given, as you will always work in a team of 2.
- Familiarity with the use of hand tools, power tools, in outdoor settings. Knowledge and experience of irrigation systems a bonus
- Growing experience with various plant species and understanding of their specific care requirements
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques including pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and pest control
- Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong teamwork skills combined with a proactive approach to garden care and problem-solving
