As a Friendship Driver, you’ll do more than provide transport—you’ll help blind and partially sighted people stay connected to their community and enjoy greater independence. Using your own vehicle, you’ll drive members to and from social groups, activities, and events, offering a friendly face and conversation along the way. You may also provide light sighted-guiding support when needed.
The role is flexible, allowing you to choose your level of involvement. Some volunteers simply provide transport, while others stay and take part in activities such as lunch clubs, reading groups, walking groups, tai chi, or Pilates sessions.
We’re looking for friendly, reliable, and responsible individuals who are comfortable working independently and hold a full UK driving licence, with valid MOT and insurance.
In return, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, build new friendships, gain a better understanding of sight loss, and become part of a supportive volunteer community.
Full training, ongoing support, reimbursement of reasonable expenses, and an Enhanced DBS check are provided.
Pay: £0.10 per year
Work Location: In person
