JOB DESCRIPTION: Labourer

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Providing practical and general labouring support across all installation measures
CONTRACT: Full time, permanent

Job Role
The Labourer will work alongside our experienced installation teams, providing practical and general labouring support across all installation measures undertaken by the company.
The role will involve preparing properties and work areas before works begin, assisting with materials and equipment, carrying out preparatory tasks, supporting installers throughout works and ensuring sites are kept clean, tidy and safe.
While the Labourer will support with a range of activities associated with installation works, they will not be responsible for independently completing installations. They will work closely with experienced installers and other team members to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who enjoys practical work and is looking to gain experience within the insulation and energy efficiency industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure sites and work areas are kept clean, tidy and safe throughout the works
- Assist with setting up sites before works begin and cleaning down and clearing sites upon completion
- Carefully remove and replace bricks as required to support cavity wall insulation extraction works
- Mix cement and other materials as required for making good following works
- Drill properties in preparation for cavity wall insulation extraction
- Fill DPCs with shingle as required
- Load loft spaces with loft insulation rolls and other required materials in preparation for installation
- Assist with the removal of existing loft insulation
- Support cavity wall extraction works, including replacing bags on the extraction machine as required
- Load, unload and move tools, equipment and materials to and from company vehicles and work areas
- Remove all rubbish, waste and surplus materials from site and ensure they are disposed of appropriately
- Assist installers and other team members with general labouring duties to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently
- Share driving responsibilities when travelling to and from sites as required
- Take appropriate care of company vehicles, tools, equipment, PPE and other company property
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, method statements and company guidelines
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with customers while working at their properties
- Report any damage, hazards, equipment defects or other concerns to the relevant Installer, Field Supervisor or Contracts Manager
- Work collaboratively with installers and other team members to complete works within required timescales
The successful candidate will be provided with appropriate training, tools, equipment, PPE and uniform required to carry out the role.
This job description aims to provide the post holder with an understanding of the anticipated role and the scope of duties and responsibilities involved. While it may not encompass every task, specific assignments and goals will be collaboratively established with the post holder on a regular basis.
The post holder will be expected to undertake any additional reasonable duties as directed by the Contracts Manager to meet the operational requirements of the organisation.
Criteria
- Previous experience in a labouring, construction or similar hands-on role would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Previous experience within insulation, retrofit or energy efficiency would be beneficial.
- Willingness to learn and develop new practical skills.
- Ability to carry out physically demanding work, including lifting and moving materials and equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Good awareness of health and safety requirements.
- Reliable, punctual and able to manage time effectively.
- Good communication skills.
- High level of customer service.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining clean and tidy work areas.
- Comfortable working within customers’ homes and across a variety of sites.
Licence/Certification
- Full UK Driving Licence – required
- CSCS Card – preferred
- Relevant construction or insulation qualification – preferred
Schedule
- Monday to Friday – business hours 8:00am–4:30pm
- Weekend work may be available on an optional basis
