Automotive & Motorsport
If you're an experienced CNC machinist who's ready to take the lead, this is a chance to join a well-established precision engineering business supplying the automotive and motorsport sectors.
You'll be leading a small team of two machinists while remaining hands-on, machining complex, high-precision components on modern 5-axis CNC machines. This is a role where your experience will be trusted, your ideas welcomed, and your technical knowledge will make a real impact.
The role
You'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the machining area, making sure quality, productivity and delivery targets are met while supporting and developing the team.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Setting and operating 5-axis CNC machining centres, including Matsuura (Fanuc) and DMG Mori (Heidenhain) machines
- Leading, mentoring and supporting a team of two skilled machinists
- Managing workflow to ensure production runs efficiently and customer deadlines are achieved
- Proving out new parts and working with CAM programmers to improve tooling, cutting strategies, speeds and feeds
- Reading engineering drawings and producing complex components to tight tolerances
- Carrying out in-process inspection using a range of measuring equipment
- Troubleshooting machining and tooling issues to minimise downtime
- Working closely with Engineering, Planning and Quality teams to continuously improve manufacturing processes
- Maintaining high housekeeping, health & safety and ISO9001 standards
You'll already have solid experience within a precision engineering environment and be confident working on complex 5-axis components.
You'll ideally have:
- Strong experience setting and operating 5-axis CNC machining centres
- Experience with Fanuc controls. Matsuura experience would be a real advantage
- Knowledge of Heidenhain controls is beneficial
- A good understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience machining prototype or low-volume, high-complexity components
- Confidence using inspection equipment and working to tight tolerances
- Previous experience leading or mentoring other machinists
- A proactive attitude with a focus on quality, continuous improvement and getting the job done right
This is an opportunity to join a growing precision engineering business working on challenging projects within the automotive and motorsport sectors.
You'll have the chance to lead from the front, work with modern 5-axis machinery, and play an important role in driving quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.
