Senior Accountant
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Accountant to join our long-established family firm of accountants based in York, known for our personal approach, long‑standing client relationships, and supportive working culture. This office-based role offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified or qualified-by-experience accountant to manage a varied portfolio of clients while providing high-quality accounting, taxation, and business advisory services.
As the practice continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced and people‑focused Accountant to join us in our York office. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting clients across a range of industries, ensuring compliance requirements are met while helping businesses achieve their financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- Prepare management accounts and financial reports for clients.
- Complete corporation tax returns and support personal tax compliance work where required.
- Managing, supporting, and developing team members, including reviewing work and helping them progress
- Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as their primary point of contact.
- Provide practical accounting and business advice to clients.
- Liaise directly with HMRC and other external stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Support and mentor junior members of the team.
- Ensure all assignments are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Assist with client onboarding and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Identify opportunities to improve client processes and add value through advisory services.
This is a hands‑on role where you will build genuine relationships with clients and help shape the future of the team.
Requirements
Essential
- ACA or ACCA qualified, or qualified by experience.
- Ideally 5 years' experience within an accountancy practice.
- Strong experience preparing accounts for a variety of business entities.
- Experience using accounting software such as Sage and Xero.
- Excellent technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a busy practice environment.
- A proactive and professional approach to client service.
Desirable
- Experience using IRIS practice software.
- Experienced in supervising, mentoring, or developing staff.
- Experience working with a diverse client portfolio across multiple sectors.
