Role Overview:
As a Senior engineer you will be able to lead and deliver structured cabling installations across commercial and industrial sites throughout the UK. This hands-on role involves supervising on-site teams, ensuring high-quality installations, and maintaining compliance with industry standards and health & safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in copper and fibre cabling, a strong understanding of network infrastructure, and the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of installations — from planning and containment to termination, testing, and client handover. You must have a driving license and access to a vehicle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the installation, termination, and testing of structured cabling systems, including Cat6, Cat6a, and fibre optic networks.
- Supervise and support on-site engineers and subcontractors, ensuring work is completed to high standards and within project deadlines.
- Interpret site plans, schematics, and technical drawings to guide accurate installations.
- Install cable containment systems such as trunking, conduit, tray, and basket in accordance with design specifications.
- Perform end-to-end cable testing and certification using Fluke DSX cabler analyser.
- Install and configure network cabinets, patch panels, and related infrastructure.
- Conduct fault finding, diagnostics, and remedial work on structured cabling systems.
- Ensure all site works are carried out safely and comply with relevant health & safety regulations and risk assessments.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and project managers to provide updates and resolve issues on site.
- Complete site documentation, including daily job sheets, test results, and handover reports.
- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to junior engineers and apprentices.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience in structured cabling installation (Cat6, Cat6a and fibre optic).
- Experience leading on-site teams or running installation projects independently.
- Excellent knowledge of cable testing, fault finding, and certification using Fluke DSX cable analyser.
- Skilled in containment installation (trunking, tray, conduit, basket, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, floor layouts, and technical schematics.
- Strong understanding of cabling standards (EN, ISO/IEC).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills – client-facing experience desirable.
- Flexible to travel to various sites across the UK (some overnight stays may be required)
Required Certifications:
- Valid ECS/CSCS card
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable (but not essential):
- SSSTS / SMSTS (Site Supervisor or Site Manager Safety Training Scheme)
- IPAF / PASMA certification
- Manufacturer-specific cabling certifications (e.g. Excel, Leviton, Brand-Rex)
- Experience working in high-security or sensitive environments (e.g. MOD, NHS, education)

Pay: £150.00-£180.00 per day
