CARETAKER – Full Time
Salary: £25,989 – £27,254 per annum
Hourly Rate: £13.47 – £14.13 per hour

We are seeking a reliable, practical and proactive Caretaker to join a busy school environment and play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming site for pupils, staff and visitors.
This is a varied and hands-on position involving the day-to-day maintenance, security and presentation of the school premises and outdoor facilities. The successful candidate will take pride in ensuring the site is clean, safe, well maintained and fully operational, while responding quickly and effectively to maintenance issues as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance, repairs and basic decorating across the school site.
- Ensure buildings, classrooms, communal areas and outdoor spaces are safe, clean and well presented.
- Conduct regular site inspections and identify maintenance, security and health and safety issues.
- Respond promptly to faults, repairs and unexpected site issues.
- Assist with opening and securing the school premises.
- Monitor doors, windows, gates, alarms and other security arrangements.
- Maintain outdoor areas, grounds and play spaces to a safe and presentable standard.
- Support the safe operation and maintenance of specialist facilities, including the swimming pool.
- Liaise with contractors and external service providers when specialist work is required.
- Assist with deliveries, moving equipment and setting up rooms for school activities and events.
- Maintain records relating to inspections, maintenance, repairs and health and safety.
- Follow all school health and safety procedures and report hazards promptly.
- Support emergency procedures and respond appropriately to incidents on site.
- Keep tools, equipment and maintenance areas secure and organised.
- Identify practical ways to improve the school premises and facilities.
- Build positive and professional relationships with pupils, staff, visitors and contractors.

We are looking for someone who:
- Has a practical, hands-on approach and enjoys solving problems.
- Takes pride in maintaining a safe, attractive and welcoming environment.
- Is organised, dependable and able to manage a varied workload.
- Can work independently and use initiative while contributing positively to a team.
- Has an understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
- Has experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, premises management or a similar environment.
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is approachable and professional when working around children and young people.
- Has good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
- Is willing to undertake relevant training and professional development.
- Has experience or qualifications relating to pool plant operation, or is willing to undertake appropriate training.
- Is flexible and able to respond positively to the changing needs of a busy school environment.
