Overview
We are seeking a warehouse operations manager for day-to-day management and coordination of transport and warehouse operations, ensuring the efficient, safe, and timely delivery of parcels. The role involves overseeing vehicle inspections, route planning, driver management, parcel accountability, and warehouse operations to maintain high service standards and operational efficiency.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct daily operational checks of all company vans before dispatch, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, compliant, and free from damage.
- Inspect vehicles for any defects or damage and arrange repairs, maintenance, or reporting procedures where necessary.
- Supervise the loading of parcels within the warehouse, ensuring all consignments are accurately scanned, allocated, and loaded onto the correct vehicles.
- Verify delivery routes and schedules, ensuring routes are planned efficiently to meet customer delivery requirements and operational targets.
- Ensure sufficient driver coverage is available for all planned routes and arrange contingency measures to cover absences or operational demands.
- Manage and support drivers throughout the working day, providing guidance, resolving operational issues, and responding to unexpected delivery challenges.
- Monitor delivery performance in real time, tracking route progress and ensuring service levels and delivery deadlines are achieved.
- Investigate and resolve delivery discrepancies, delays, failed deliveries, and customer service issues.
- Maintain communication with drivers, warehouse personnel, and management to ensure smooth operational performance.
- Oversee the return process for vehicles and drivers at the end of each shift.
- Check returned parcels and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with company procedures.
- Ensure the warehouse is prepared to receive and process undelivered, returned, or redirected parcels efficiently.
- Verify that all parcels are accounted for through accurate scanning, tracking, reconciliation, and reporting procedures.
- Maintain operational records, performance reports, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, company policies, and transport legislation.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, delivery performance, and customer satisfaction.
Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience in logistics, transport, parcel delivery, or warehouse operations management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Experience managing drivers and coordinating transport operations.
- Knowledge of route planning, fleet management, and parcel tracking systems.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational priorities.
- Competent in the use of logistics software, tracking systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within logistics and transport environments.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualification Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or equivalent experience.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
