About Motorcraft Adventure Developments
Motorcraft Adventure Developments is the UK's leading specialist vehicle manufacturer, designing and building premium expedition, overland and adventure vehicles.
As we continue to grow our order book and expand our range of Overland vehicles across the UK and Europe, we are looking for an experienced Commercial Vehicle Paint & Body Technician to join our established Paintshop Team at our Doncaster facility.
This is an opportunity to work on a wide variety of specialist vehicles, ranging from smaller components and assemblies through to full-size LGV and HGV-based expedition vehicles.
Every project is different, so we are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in producing a high-quality finish and who is comfortable working in a bespoke manufacturing environment.
The Role
Working as part of our Paintshop and Production teams, you will be responsible for preparing, repairing and refinishing a wide range of specialist vehicles and components to a consistently high standard.
The role will involve everything from stripping and refitting vehicle components, carrying out bodywork repairs and surface preparation, through to masking, priming and applying final paint finishes.
Accuracy, attention to detail and pride in workmanship are essential.
Because our vehicles are individually designed and manufactured, the work is considerably more varied than a conventional production or fleet paintshop. You will regularly need to assess different materials, vehicle layouts and repair requirements, solve problems and adapt your approach as projects progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare vehicles, body panels and components prior to painting
- Carry out bodywork repairs and rectification as required
- Strip and refit vehicle components, trim, fittings and accessories
- Carry out filling, sanding, shaping and surface preparation
- Mask vehicles and components accurately prior to refinishing
- Apply primers, basecoats, topcoats and finishing systems to a high standard
- Paint both small components and large commercial vehicles
- Identify and rectify paint or surface defects
- Polish and finish painted surfaces where required
- Inspect completed work and ensure the required quality standard has been achieved
- Work accurately to production schedules and deadlines
- Maintain paintshop equipment, tools and work areas
- Work closely with fabrication, assembly and production teams
- Identify and report any maintenance, quality or safety concerns
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures and use appropriate PPE at all times
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
Essential Skills & Experience
We are looking for an experienced automotive or commercial vehicle paint professional who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience within an automotive, commercial vehicle or body repair paintshop environment
- Strong experience in vehicle preparation and refinishing
- Experience carrying out body repairs and surface preparation
- Experience working on large vehicles such as HGVs, LGVs, buses, coaches, commercial vehicles or similar
- Ability to achieve a consistently high-quality paint finish
- Good knowledge of paint preparation and application processes
- Ability to identify and rectify imperfections and paint defects
- Confidence working independently and managing your own workload
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently to deadlines
- Strong practical problem-solving ability
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- A good understanding of Health & Safety within a paintshop environment
Ideally, candidates will have around 5 years' relevant paintshop or body repair experience, although applications will also be considered from individuals who can clearly demonstrate the required standard of workmanship and experience.
Skills & Attributes
The successful candidate will be:
- Proud of the quality of their work
- Highly attentive to detail
- Self-motivated and reliable
- Comfortable working independently
- Able to work effectively as part of a wider production team
- Practical and adaptable
- Able to solve problems as they arise
- Organised in their approach to work
- Committed to achieving a right-first-time finish
- Willing to learn and develop additional skills
- Flexible when working across different vehicles and projects
What We Offer
- Permanent, full-time employment
- Competitive hourly rate based on experience
- Regular overtime opportunities
- Company pension
- Free on-site parking
- Ongoing training and development
- Opportunity to work on unique, specialist vehicles
- Varied projects rather than repetitive production work
- Supportive and experienced team environment
- Long-term career opportunities within a growing specialist manufacturing business
If you are an experienced Paint & Body Technician who takes pride in producing exceptional finishes and would like to work on something a little different from the traditional bodyshop environment, we'd like to hear from you.
