Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH HLTA (Special Educational Needs and Mental Health Higher Level Teaching Assistant) to join our specialised educational team. The successful candidate will support children with social, emotional, and mental health needs within a nurturing learning environment. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners, particularly those with autism and other disabilities. The position is paid and suitable for individuals passionate about education, child development, and supporting diverse learning needs. The role will be supporting for 4 hours in PE per week, and then maths and art for the other hours. A driving licence is desirable.
Duties
- Assist in delivering tailored educational programmes for children with special educational needs, including those with autism and behavioural challenges.
- Support pupils with daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being during lessons and breaks.
- Work closely with class teachers to implement personalised learning strategies that promote social and emotional development.
- Facilitate communication between pupils, staff, and parents to ensure consistent support.
- Support children with toddler care routines where applicable, fostering a caring and inclusive environment.
- Observe behavioural patterns and contribute to behaviour management plans.
- Assist in organising activities that promote social skills, independence, and confidence among pupils.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour as required by the school.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working with children in educational or care settings, particularly those with special needs such as autism or disabilities.
- Knowledge of working within special education environments is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting individuals with social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, colleagues, and parents.
- Ability to work flexibly within a team and adapt to the individual needs of pupils.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent are preferred but not essential if accompanied by relevant experience.
- Passion for supporting children's development and inclusion is essential.
