We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Male Support Worker to join a private rehabilitation team supporting an adult client (mid-30s) in the Watford area who is recovering from a work-related acquired brain injury (ABI).
You will be responsible for implementing their clinical guidance and therapeutic plans within the client's home and community setting. This is a key role that involves working closely with a multi-disciplinary team, including Occupational Therapists (OT), Physiotherapists (PT), and Speech and Language Therapists (SALT).
Key Responsibilities
- Rehabilitation Support: Accompany and support the client during therapeutic activities, focusing on cognitive and physical goals as set by the MDT.
- Community Access: Facilitate and support the client's safe attendance at community activities, including the gym. This requires mindful support with spatial awareness and navigating social proximity.
- Daily Living: Provide assistance as needed to ensure the client is not left alone, promoting safety and engagement in meaningful activities.
- Therapeutic Engagement: Support the client's return to hobbies such as computer games/PlayStation and encourage interests like photography and animals.
- Communication: Uphold clear and simple communication to assist the client who can struggle to process strong regional accents.
Hours
- 4 x 4 hour shifts per week (Monday - Friday)
About You (The Ideal Candidate)
- Experience: Previous experience working with individuals who have an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) or complex neurological needs is highly desirable.
- Profile: A male support worker who can connect with the client on shared interests (e.g., technology, engineering background, gaming).
- Communication Skills: Clear, consistent, and patient communicator, understanding the challenges posed by processing different accents.
- Language: While not essential, the ability to communicate in Farsi/Iranian would be a significant advantage.
- Personal Qualities: Reliable, professional, proactive, and committed to supporting a client through their long-term rehabilitation journey.
