About the Role
Appmetric Software Limited is seeking a technically capable and motivated IT Network & Infrastructure Engineer to join our team and take responsibility for the design, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the organisation's network and IT infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work across network infrastructure, connectivity, systems, security and technical support. The role will involve implementing and maintaining reliable network environments, monitoring performance, diagnosing and resolving network faults, maintaining network security and supporting users with technical issues.
The successful candidate will also contribute to infrastructure improvements and technology projects as the company's IT environment develops.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, implement and maintain computer network environments to meet organisational requirements.
- Install, configure and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure and VPN solutions.
- Monitor network performance, availability, capacity and reliability and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve network connectivity, performance and infrastructure faults.
- Maintain secure and reliable LAN, WAN and wireless network environments.
- Configure and maintain network addressing, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP and related network services.
- Implement and maintain appropriate network security controls, including firewalls, access controls, VPNs and network segmentation.
- Monitor network security and investigate network-related incidents, vulnerabilities and unusual activity.
- Create, configure and maintain user accounts, network permissions and access arrangements in accordance with company requirements.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users experiencing network, connectivity or infrastructure problems.
- Evaluate existing network infrastructure and recommend improvements to performance, reliability, security and scalability.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of new network environments, infrastructure upgrades and technology changes.
- Test new network hardware, software and configurations before implementation.
- Carry out planned maintenance, configuration changes, upgrades and system updates while minimising disruption to business operations.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, asset information, procedures and operational records.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures for network administration, troubleshooting, security and maintenance.
- Assist with backup, recovery and business continuity arrangements relating to network and infrastructure services.
- Work with third-party suppliers, service providers and technology vendors to investigate and resolve technical issues where required.
- Provide technical guidance and training to users on network-related systems and procedures.
- Analyse recurring network problems and implement preventative measures to improve service reliability.
- Keep up to date with developments in networking technologies, infrastructure, cloud services and network security.
- Support the wider IT team with infrastructure-related projects and technical activities.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Professional experience in network engineering, network administration or IT infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of computer networking principles and protocols.
- Practical knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing and switching.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls and wireless network equipment.
- Experience with VPN technologies and secure remote connectivity.
- Experience monitoring network performance and diagnosing network faults.
- Understanding of network security principles, access controls and firewall technologies.
- Experience supporting Windows-based network and server environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure and networking services.
- Ability to analyse technical problems systematically and identify appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work with network monitoring, diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
- Good understanding of IT infrastructure maintenance, upgrades and change management.
- Ability to produce and maintain clear technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and take ownership of technical problems.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking qualification.
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
- Microsoft Azure or other recognised cloud infrastructure certification.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server.
- Experience with Linux-based systems.
- Experience with virtualisation technologies.
- Knowledge of network monitoring platforms and infrastructure management tools.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and network security best practices.
- Experience working with cloud networking environments.

Pay: £33,500.00-£46,000.00 per year
