What You'll Be Doing
As our Maintenance Handyman, you'll play an important role in the day-to-day upkeep of the care home by:
- Carrying out general repairs and maintenance throughout the home.
- Completing planned preventative maintenance as well as responding promptly to maintenance requests.
- Repairing furniture, fixtures, fittings, doors, tables, chairs, and other equipment.
- Undertaking basic plumbing work, including clearing blocked sinks and drains.
- Carrying out minor electrical repairs and general maintenance where appropriate.
- Performing Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and maintaining accurate testing records.
- Regularly inspecting the building and surrounding grounds to identify and resolve maintenance issues.
- Helping keep outdoor areas clean, tidy, and safe by sweeping pathways, emptying bins, litter picking, and maintaining planters.
- Assisting with deliveries, moving furniture, and general portering duties when required.
- Providing support with housekeeping and cleaning tasks where needed.
- Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from applicants who have:
- Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities, building maintenance, or property maintenance role.
- Practical skills across a range of general repairs and basic decorating.
- Experience using hand tools and small industrial, electrical, or mechanical equipment.
- A good understanding of Health & Safety procedures and COSHH regulations.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage their workload effectively.
- Good communication, literacy, and numeracy skills.
- A reliable, positive, and proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on role that involves bending, lifting, stretching, carrying equipment, moving furniture, receiving deliveries, and completing a variety of repair and maintenance tasks. You'll be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, including in changing weather conditions and environments where dust or dirt may be present.
