Early Years Practitioner – Duties Overview
The Early Years Practitioner plays a vital role in providing safe, stimulating, and supportive environments for young children to grow, learn, and develop. Practitioners support individual children’s needs and follow best practices in early education and care.
1. Safeguarding & Welfare
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
- Follow safeguarding policies and report concerns to the DSL.
- Carry out risk assessments and promote a safe environment.
2. Child Development & Learning
- Support the learning and development of children in line with our curriculum
- Use observation and assessment to inform planning and next steps.
- Encourage language development, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Ensure learning journals are kept up to date and all meetings done i.e. transitions, 2 year check, tracking, parents evenings etc.
3. Planning & Delivery
- Contribute to planning stimulating activities for individual and group learning.
- Implement inclusive practice for children with additional needs.
- Adapt activities to suit different interests and learning styles.
4. Positive Relationships
- Develop strong, respectful relationships with children and families.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers.
- Promote positive behaviour and model respectful communication.
5. Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene routines throughout the setting.
- Follow health and safety procedures and infection control guidance.
- Support mealtimes, toileting, and personal care with dignity and care.
6. Professionalism & Development
- Work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a team
- Attend training and supervisions to develop professionally.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold policies and procedure

Pay: £25,000.00-£27,000.00 per year
