We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the Manager in the day-to-day operation of the pub, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient operations, high standards of food and drink quality, and compliance with all company policies and legal requirements. The role also involves leading, motivating, and developing the team while helping to drive sales and profitability.
Operational Management
- Assist in the daily running of the pub, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
- Act as Duty Manager during assigned shifts and take responsibility for the operation in the absence of the Manager.
- Ensure the pub is clean, safe, and presented to a consistently high standard.
- Monitor service standards and resolve customer issues promptly and professionally.
- Support the planning and execution of promotions, events, and seasonal activities.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer experiences and encourage a welcoming atmosphere.
- Handle customer complaints and feedback effectively.
- Build strong relationships with regular customers and promote repeat business.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, motivate, and support front-of-house and bar staff.
- Assist with recruitment, induction, training, and ongoing development of employees.
- Conduct shift briefings and ensure staff understand daily objectives.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and high performance.
Financial Responsibilities
- Assist in achieving sales, labour, and profit targets.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering, stock rotation, and stock takes.
- Minimise waste, shrinkage, and stock losses.
- Handle cash, banking, and end-of-day reconciliation procedures accurately.
- Support cost control initiatives and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
Food Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene, licensing, and health and safety legislation.
- Maintain accurate records required for food safety and licensing compliance.
- Ensure all staff follow company procedures and safe working practices.
- Support audits and inspections.
Administration
- Assist with staff rotas and scheduling.
- Complete daily and weekly operational paperwork.
- Monitor key performance indicators and report any issues to the Manager.
- Support payroll administration where required.
Skills
- Proven management experience within a public house; supervising experience is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Organisational skills with the capacity to prioritise tasks efficiently in a busy setting.
- Proficient in Information Technology and in particular, use of iPad Apps and laptop software.
- Sound time management skills to meet deadlines and operational goals consistently.
- Administrative experience with competence in handling reports, documentation, and Microsoft Office software.
- Demonstrated ability to handle phone etiquette professionally while managing customer interactions.
