Working on reception extends beyond simply welcoming customers and answering questions – we’re part of the foundation that keeps the centre running smoothly, supporting other teams to deliver great food, fun sessions, and enjoyable routes.
This role is primarily a front of house role with additional responsibilities for the safe day-to-day operation of the centre when a Duty Manager is not on site. You will act within the scope of the Key Holder role, following center policies and procedures, and escalating matters where required.
You will be a strong, reliable and knowledgeable member of the team, supporting the Duty Manager when they are on site to ensure that customers receive the best possible experience while climbing at The Boardroom.
Front of House responsibilities
- Signing customers in to climb
- Registering new customers to the center
- Taking food and drinks orders
- Preparing hot drinks to order
- Monitoring the safety and wellbeing of customers using the facilities
- Daily cleaning tasks
- Daily opening and closing checks and routines
Additional Key Holder responsibilities
- Opening and locking up the centre when a Duty Manager is not present.
- Completing cash-up procedures.
- Responding to day-to-day operational issues when a Duty Manager is not present, making appropriate decisions within the scope of the role and escalating where necessary.
- Acting as the initial point of contact for first aid, safety and safeguarding concerns when a Duty Manager is not present, following the centre’s procedures and escalating appropriately.
Expected skills/experience
- A strong customer focus, with a friendly and approachable manner.
- Able to remain calm and make sensible decisions when dealing with unexpected situations.
- Comfortable taking responsibility and working independently within established procedures.
- Able to communicate clearly and appropriately with customers and colleagues.
- Adaptable and willing to support different areas of the centre when needed.
- Experience as a Key Holder, or in a similar role involving responsibility for premises and customers without direct management supervision.
- Experience working effectively as part of a close team.
- Experience working collaboratively across different teams.
Desirable skills/experience
- First Aid trained, with experience of responding to incidents.
- Experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience working in a climbing centre.
- CWI (Climbing Wall Instructor) qualified or above.
