Lead Climber (Self-Employed Subcontractor)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Lead Climber to work with us on a self-employed subcontract basis.
This is an opportunity for an experienced tree surgeon who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and can confidently lead a team on a wide range of domestic and commercial tree surgery projects.
You'll be expected to work independently, make sound decisions on-site, maintain excellent safety standards, and represent the business professionally with our clients.
This role is initially offered on a self-employed basis with regular ongoing work available. For the right person, there may be the opportunity to move into a PAYE position in the future, should both parties wish to do so.
Responsibilities
Lead and organise the team on-site. Carry out all aspects of climbing arboriculture, including pruning, dismantling and sectional felling. Undertake advanced rigging operations safely and efficiently. Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Complete dynamic risk assessments before and during works. Liaise professionally with customers and members of the public. Direct and mentor ground staff where required. Carry out daily inspections of climbing equipment and machinery. Leave every site clean, tidy and to an exceptional standard. Represent the company professionally at all times.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience as a Lead Climber / Tree Surgeon. Relevant NPTC/LANTRA qualifications for chainsaw use and aerial tree work. Own climbing kit (LOLER compliant). Public Liability Insurance. Full UK driving licence. Excellent climbing, rigging and dismantling experience. Strong understanding of current arboricultural best practice. Ability to work independently and lead a team. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Desirable
MEWP qualification. Forestry First Aid qualification. Trailer licence (BE). Experience operating chippers, stump grinders and plant machinery. Ability to tow and operate company equipment. Level 2 or Level 3 Arboriculture qualification.
