Purpose of role
We’re looking for a commercially minded Finance Project Accountant to support the financial management of key projects across the business. This role will partner closely with finance and operational stakeholders to provide accurate project reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and analysis.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered with strong financial oversight, clear reporting, and robust controls
Accountable for;
- Manage the financial reporting for a portfolio of projects
- Prepare project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Track project costs, revenue, and profitability against budget
- Produce accurate monthly project accounts and variance analysis
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to project accounting
- Partner with project managers and department leads to provide financial insight and challenge
- Monitor accruals, prepayments, WIP, and revenue recognition where applicable
- Ensure project financials are aligned with internal controls and accounting standards
- Identify financial risks, issues, and opportunities across projects
- Support business cases, investment appraisals, and ad hoc financial modelling
- Improve reporting processes, systems, and finance controls within the project environment
- Assist with audit requests and documentation as needed
Experince
- Qualified or part-qualified ACCA / CIMA / ACA preferred
- Previous experience in a project accounting, management accounting, or project finance support role
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Experience working with project managers or operational stakeholders
- Confident handling large data sets and producing clear financial reports
- Strong Excel skills; experience with ERP or finance systems is beneficial
- High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
- Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
