Job Title: Childcare Assistant/.Apprentice
Salary Scale: Minimum Wage
Hours: 30/40 hours per week.
Accountable to: Room Leader
This position is subject to AccessNI and Social Services vetting requirements. Hours will be scheduled between 7.30 am and 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
Role Purpose
Play staff will work as part of the Giggle n Grow team to provide a safe, caring, and stimulating environment for children. This includes assisting in the planning, organisation, delivery, and evaluation of play-based and educational activities in line with The Minimum Standards for Childminding and Day Care (July 2012, amended October 2018) and Giggle n Grow policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, organisation, and delivery of the daily play curriculum and activities.
- Support with the observation, assessment, and evaluation of children’s learning and development.
- Carry out daily observations and update the child management system as required.
- Ensure children are cared for in a happy, safe, and supportive environment, and are handed over safely to parents/carers.
- Work as part of a team to maintain high standards of care and communication.
- Maintain daily room records as directed by the Room Leader or management.
- Ensure all toys, resources, and equipment are stored correctly and that damaged or unsafe items are reported immediately in line with daily risk assessment procedures.
- Assist with daily cleaning and sterilisation tasks to maintain hygiene standards.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with children, parents, colleagues, and management.
- Keep accurate information on parents and children in line with data protection requirements.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in training sessions as required.
- Follow all Giggle n Grow policies and procedures, especially those relating to safeguarding, behaviour management, and health and safety.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by management.
Essential Requirements
- Educated to or willing to work towards, QCF Level 2/3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (or equivalent).
- Experience working with children.
Desirable Requirements
- A full, clean driving licence.
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Child Protection / Safeguarding training certificate.
