About Abbott Holliday Partnership
Founded in 1978, Abbott Holliday Partnership is one of the South-East's most trusted chartered structural engineering consultancies. In 48 years of operation we have never had a single professional indemnity claim. Our all-chartered team works across London and the South-East on a varied caseload of defect inspections, structural design, and expert witness work. We are expanding and looking for the right engineer to grow with us.
The Role
A home-based, chartered senior engineering position with genuine variety and real responsibility from day one. You will manage your own caseload with support from an experienced team and a rigorous peer-review process.
- Structural defect inspections — cracking, subsidence, leaning walls, sagging roofs, heritage structures
- Structural design for extensions, loft conversions, alterations, and commercial projects
- Clear, conclusive, client-ready written reports — peer reviewed before issue
- Opportunity to develop expert witness capability — full training provided
- Contributing to peer reviews and team quality standards
What We Need
Essential:
- Must be Chartered Engineer (CEng) and member of MIStructE, MICE or an accredited organisation, or close to achieving chartership
- Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- Solid knowledge of UK Building Regulations and current design codes
- Excellent written English — you produce reports clients use to make major decisions
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, unless using public transport eg London
- Self-motivated and comfortable managing a remote caseload
Desirable:
- AutoCAD, TEDDS or other structural design software
- Experience with listed or historic building assessments
- Proficiency in MS Word for formatting and layouts
- Any exposure to expert witness or litigation support work
Our Culture
This is not a firm where you spend your first year drafting reports for someone else to sign off. Abbott Holliday engineers work autonomously on their own cases from the start, supported by a peer-review culture that maintains our quality standard. The firm is growing and there is genuine scope to develop into expert witness work, take on more complex cases, and build your career.
