About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and motivated Registered Manager to lead a three bed children’s residential home supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective day to day management of the home, ensuring that every young person receives safe, consistent and individualised care. You will provide strong leadership to the staff team, promote a nurturing and therapeutic environment, and ensure the home operates in line with regulatory requirements, safeguarding procedures and organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operation of the children’s home, ensuring a safe, caring and well managed environment.
- Provide effective leadership, supervision and support to residential childcare staff.
- Ensure the home meets all relevant regulatory, safeguarding and quality standards.
- Lead the home through Ofsted inspections and maintain a clear improvement and development plan.
- Develop and review individual care plans, placement plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
- Ensure that young people’s emotional, behavioural, educational, health and social needs are understood and supported.
- Promote a trauma informed and child centred approach to care.
- Support young people to develop confidence, independence, resilience and positive relationships.
- Oversee staff recruitment, induction, training, supervision and performance management.
- Maintain safe staffing levels and manage staff rotas effectively.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns, incidents, complaints and allegations are managed appropriately and reported promptly.
- Monitor medication administration, health appointments and the general wellbeing of young people.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation in accordance with organisational and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the home’s budget, resources and expenditure responsibly.
- Build positive working relationships with families, social workers, schools, healthcare professionals and other external agencies.
- Promote a positive culture of teamwork, accountability, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
- Participate in the on-call management rota where required.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a management role within a children’s residential care setting.
- Strong experience supporting children or young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, trauma or complex needs.
- A recognised Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare, Children and Young People’s Workforce, or an equivalent qualification.
- A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a willingness to complete the qualification within the required timeframe.
- Good knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, risk management and safer working practices.
- Experience supervising, developing and motivating a residential childcare team.
- Strong understanding of care planning, behaviour support and positive risk taking.
- Excellent organisational, leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work professionally with families, local authorities and multidisciplinary professionals.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, where required for the role.
- Flexibility to work according to the needs of the home, including participation in an on-call rota.
- The ability to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory employment references.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager within a children’s home.
- Experience preparing for and managing Ofsted inspections.
- Knowledge of trauma informed care, attachment difficulties and therapeutic approaches.
- Experience opening or developing a new children’s residential home.
- Understanding of quality assurance, auditing and service improvement.
