Purchasing Assistant

Salary: £28,000 to £32,000

We’re looking for an organised, proactive Purchasing Assistant to join our team.
This is a varied role combining purchasing, supplier management, administration and production support. You’ll make sure our workshop has the materials, information and services it needs, when it needs them.
What you’ll do
- Source and purchase steel, copper, earthing materials, fixings, consumables and subcontract services.
- Obtain and compare supplier quotes, negotiate prices and manage purchase orders.
- Chase and expedite deliveries, resolving shortages or supplier issues quickly.
- Maintain stock, purchasing records and delivery schedules.
- Liaise with suppliers, workshop teams and project staff to keep production running smoothly.
- Support workshop planning, production paperwork, dispatch and external processing such as galvanising and painting.
- Help identify opportunities to reduce costs, waste and delays.
What we’re looking for
You may already have experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, sales administration or a manufacturing/engineering environment.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Highly organised and accurate.
- Confident dealing with suppliers and colleagues.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities.
- Commercially aware, with an eye for value.
- Proactive and willing to take ownership.
- Confident with Excel and Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of steelwork, fabrication, copper or earthing materials is useful but not essential — training will be provided for the right person.
