Love a fast-paced service without the late nights? If you’re a solid pub-style chef who can handle high volumes of tickets calmly while still putting up proper, good-quality food, we’d love to meet you.
We’re a friendly, well-organised kitchen in a beautiful countryside Garden Centre restaurant, and we’re adding an additional chef to support our team as we continue to grow.
Location
A lovely countryside setting in the heart of Devon — halfway between Okehampton and Crediton.
The Role
You’ll work alongside our Head Chef and team in a busy daytime restaurant producing a menu of:
- Main meals & cafe/pub classics
- Light bites
- Cakes, scones and seasonal bakes
- Daily/weekly specials
You’ll have room to create your own specials rather than following a menu 100% of the time.
Hours & Working Pattern
- 4 days per week
- Daytime hours (no evenings)
- Weekend working is important as they are our busiest times (occasional weekend days off on a rota -likely 1-2 weekend days off per month)
What We’re Looking For (Essential)
We’re specifically looking for someone who:
- Has chef/cook experience in a busy environment (pub, café, restaurant, or similar)
- Can cope with a high volume of tickets and keep service moving without getting stressed
- Cares about quality, consistency, and speed
- Is positive, polite, and a genuine team player
- Communicates well with Front of House to keep service smooth
- Is happy to work weekends
If you’re the kind of chef who stays calm when it’s busy and takes pride in getting plates out quickly and right — you’ll fit in well here.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef and team with prep and lunch service
- Maintain strong food presentation and consistency for plated meals

- Complete required temperature checks and kitchen records
- Maintain excellent hygiene standards: daily cleaning + scheduled cleaning
- Complete the SFBB diary when the Head Chef is not in
- Update the specials board daily
- Keep communication strong with FOH during peak periods
- Regularly produce desserts / baking (cakes, scones, quiches) to seasonal menus
- Ad hoc kitchen tasks as required by the Head Chef/owners
