Head Barista / Team Leader

We are looking for an experienced, friendly and reliable Head Barista / Team Leader to join our independent café.
This is an important role within the business, ideal for someone who loves great coffee, enjoys working with customers and is confident taking responsibility for the smooth running of a busy café.
The position will initially be approximately 20 hours per week, primarily Friday to Sunday. There will also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts during the week, with the potential for the position to develop into a full-time role in the future.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Preparing consistently high-quality coffees and drinks
- Delivering friendly and efficient customer service
- Leading the café during your shifts
- Supporting and guiding other team members
- Opening and/or closing the café when required
- Managing busy service periods efficiently
- Maintaining excellent cleanliness and presentation standards
- Monitoring stock and communicating ordering requirements
- Preparing and serving our food and grab-and-go offering
- Ensuring food safety and operational procedures are followed
- Helping us continually improve the customer experience
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has previous barista experience
- Is confident using a commercial espresso machine
- Can produce consistently good coffee during busy periods
- Is reliable, organised and punctual
- Is comfortable taking responsibility and working independently
- Has excellent customer service skills
- Works well as part of a small team
- Remains calm and efficient during busy periods
- Takes pride in keeping a café clean, organised and well presented
- Is available to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Previous supervisory or team leader experience would be an advantage, although we would also consider a strong and experienced barista who is ready to progress into a leadership position.
Hours
Approximately 20 contracted hours per week
The core shift pattern will be Friday to Sunday, and weekend availability is essential.
Working Hours
This role has a regular Friday to Sunday shift pattern:
- Friday: 7:30am – 4:00pm (30-minute unpaid break)
- Saturday: 8:00am – 4:00pm (30-minute unpaid break)
- Sunday: 9:00am – 1:30pm
Optional additional shifts will be available during the week, providing flexibility for someone looking for extra hours.
As the business continues to grow, there will also be the opportunity to increase contracted hours and potentially progress into a full-time position.
We're looking for someone who wants to become an important part of a growing independent café and take genuine responsibility for its day-to-day success.
Pay: £13.50-£14.50 per hour
