We're Oakdene Services (1925) Ltd, a commercial litho printer based in Mallusk, and we're looking for a Dispatch Operative to join our team.
Everything we print passes through dispatch on its way out the door. It's the last pair of eyes on a job before the customer sees it, so we need someone organised, careful and quick on their feet — the sort of person who notices a short count or a damaged carton rather than sending it out and hoping.
Key responsibilities
Packing and preparation
- Count, wrap and pack finished printed work for dispatch, protecting it against damage in transit
- Band, shrink-wrap and box to suit the job, the stock and the delivery method
- Build and wrap pallets safely and squarely, weighting and balancing loads correctly
- Label all consignments accurately with delivery details and job references
Dispatch and goods out
- Check finished quantities against the job bag and delivery note before anything leaves site
- Book collections with couriers and pallet networks, and prepare the accompanying paperwork
- Load vans and vehicles, working with drivers to sequence deliveries
- [Carry out local deliveries in the company van as required, representing us professionally with customers]
- Keep dispatch records up to date and flag any shortages, damages or discrepancies straight away
Goods in and stores
- Receive and check incoming deliveries of paper and consumables against paperwork
- Move and store stock safely, keeping it dry, flat and correctly identified
- Assist with stock counts
General
- Keep the dispatch area clean, tidy and clear of obstructions
- Help out elsewhere in production during quieter periods
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including manual handling, safe stacking and PPE
Skills and experience
Essential
- Full, valid driving licence — this is essential for the role
- Accurate and methodical, with a genuine eye for detail — counts and labels need to be right
- Comfortable with the physical side of the job: lifting, moving stock and being on your feet
- Basic numeracy and confident with paperwork
- Reliable timekeeping and a willingness to muck in when a deadline is tight
- Safety-conscious approach to manual handling and stacking
Desirable
- Previous dispatch, warehouse or goods-in experience
- Counterbalance forklift licence (or willingness to train — we'll fund it for the right person)
- Experience booking couriers or pallet network collections
- Any background in print or paper handling
What we offer
- Competitive salary, based on your experience and skill set
- Overtime paid at time and a half
- Discretionary staff bonus scheme — all employees enrolled after 12 months' service
- Company pension scheme
- 28 days' holiday including bank holidays
- Straight 6am–2pm day shift, Monday to Friday — early finish every day, no nights, no weekends
