Role Description
No previous referee experience is required, we will provide training. This is a part-time on-site role based in Nottingham for a Tag Rugby Referee. Referees must be at least 18 years old. The Referees will manage matches, ensure fair play by enforcing the rules of the game, and maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants. Responsibilities also include setting up pitches and inspecting equipment, facilitating pre-match briefings, and controlling the matches. Additionally, the Referees will assist in providing feedback to players to help improve their understanding and performance on the field.
This is a flexible, part-time opportunity suited to those looking for evening and occasional weekend work. Referees operate on a self-employed basis, giving you the freedom to choose when you work. As an independent contractor, you’ll be responsible for your own tax and National Insurance arrangements.
As part of this role we will provide training on 27th June 2026 in a FREE Referee Workshop
Qualifications
- Ability and desire to learn the tag rugby rules, regulations, and gameplay dynamics
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide clear instructions and manage players
- Leadership and decision-making skills under pressure, with the ability to handle on-field conflicts effectively
- Good physical fitness to meet the demands of officiating multiple matches
- Time management and organizational skills for managing games efficiently
- Availability to work evenings and weekends when required
- Experience in sports refereeing or officiating is a plus
- A commitment to promoting inclusivity, teamwork, and sportsmanship
Experience
No previous officiating or refereeing experience is necessary; full training will be provided to ensure confidence in managing games effectively. Candidates should possess a keen interest in sports, strong decision-making skills, and the ability to remain impartial under pressure. Good communication skills, a responsible attitude, and the ability to work as part of a team are desirable qualities for applicants. This role offers an engaging environment where individuals can develop leadership skills while supporting local sporting activities. All referees are paid for their time, reflecting the importance of their contribution to community sports.
