This is a temporary position to cover maternity leave for 7 months from 1st September 2026 to 31st March 2027.
To offer support to Service Users in developing independent lives through the implementation of the aims and purposes of the YMCA and to help with the running and upkeep of YMCA residential property.
- You will manage a caseload of young people providing, engaging and creative support, to enable them to increase their independent living skills, so they can move on positively.
- You will work as part of a team delivering group and individual support sessions, working closely with young people to ensure they have genuine input into the design of all areas of their support.
- Effectively and professionally, you will support the daily operation of our Housing Team.
- You will liaise with partner organisations as required.

- Main Responsibilities
Managing a caseload of residents with a range of needs and aspirations.
Formulation of support plan in partnership with each young person, agreeing target outcomes and milestones.
Following an offer of accommodation, draw up a needs and risk assessment for each young person.
To ensure that vulnerable people are protected through knowledge of Adult and Child Safeguarding Procedures.
To provide practical help with independent living skills and managing residents responsibilities, including maintaining their property, Housing Benefit claims, rent payments, maximising income and acting promptly with arrears.
To maintain void levels and deal with abandonment of tenancies.
To respond in a timely manner to support young people with changes in benefits and changing economic circumstances.
To update the personal rents on Amis for the looked after service users.
To complete any clerical work and input any data into the AMIS System.
To maintain key worker records, complete timetables, update Amis and communicate with other members of the team through team meetings, communication book, intranet and other implemented communication measures when covering this role.
To work with external agencies including EDT and police to report any concerns or support needs for any looked after young people and to report them as missing when required.
Refer tenants to commissioned agencies regarding support throughout the night as and when required.
To facilitate drop ins and activities where possible.
Assist Senior Worker and Supported Housing Manager with enforcement action in case of contravention of house rules or non-compliance with licence agreement. Follow the Eviction policy issuing verbal and written warnings in line with YMCA procedures.
Accommodation database duties – Record accurate move in and out dates, ensure all charges for all client types including supported accommodation, housing benefit, young person’s rent etc are accounted for accurately for each account.
To work co-operatively as part of a small team ensuring all objectives are met for the young people in undertaking other responsibilities and tasks requested by the Housing Manager, Finance Manager, Development Manager, Chief Executive or Board.
To report any repairs and monitor any work in progress checking completed work and updating maintenance records.
To attend regular team meetings, undertake training as required, and participate in one to one supervisions.
Support Housing and Supported Housing Manager to ensure that the views, aspirations, concerns and ideas of young people are actively sort and acted upon. Support young people to achieve and thrive by providing opportunities to access education, training and employment.
To cover work in other areas of the business, where required.
To maintain confidentiality within the policies and procedures of the YMCA and external agencies.
To deal with emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Familiarise yourself with the contractors list and respond to emergency repairs accordingly, making any arrangements needed to allow contractors access.
To ensure security measures are maintained, doors are locked, fire alarm checks, CCTV maintenance including appropriate use of furniture and equipment for the property.
To help tenants maintain accommodation, monitoring access to individual flats and maintaining security of the building.
To help with cleaning and maintenance of the building.
To ensure that visitors sign in and help residents maintain the security of the building. Carry out all mandatory and necessary training including SharePoint, Health & Safety and any other course requested within the 6 months probationary period and subsequent refresher training.

The post holder will carry responsibility for the support of tenants as delegated by the Senior Worker and for aspects of the running and upkeep of the project, including the property
The post holder will be expected to show initiative and make decisions within the policies and procedures of YMCA Wearside LTD.
The special needs of the client group could lead to the need for conflict and aggression management in an environment which at times could be demanding and stressful.
