We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Master Technician to provide technical support across multiple bus and coach depots. This role is focused on diagnosing complex vehicle faults, carrying out advanced diagnostics, and supporting workshop teams by sharing technical expertise and keeping pace with the latest vehicle technologies.
As a senior member of the engineering team, you will also play a key role in developing the skills of fellow technicians and apprentices, helping to improve workshop efficiency and reduce reliance on external repair providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle faults.
- Carry out advanced diagnostics using manufacturer and specialist diagnostic equipment.
- Support, coach and train technicians and apprentices in diagnostic procedures and fault-finding techniques.
- Help reduce dependency on external contractors by resolving complex technical issues in-house.
- Produce accurate technical reports and repair documentation when required.
- Provide technical guidance to workshop teams across multiple depot locations.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
About You
You'll have a strong background in heavy vehicle maintenance and diagnostics, along with the confidence to support and mentor others.
Essential requirements:
- NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent qualification).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Extensive knowledge of heavy vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
- Proven experience diagnosing complex vehicle faults.
- Experience using industry-leading diagnostic equipment, including Jaltest, Cummins INSITE, Mercedes-Benz Xentry, ZF Testman, and other PSV or HGV diagnostic platforms.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Excellent organisational, time management and workload prioritisation skills.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to respond to changing operational demands.
- A proactive, practical approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
- Previous field service or mobile technician experience.
- Experience working on buses, coaches or other heavy commercial vehicles.
Pay: £29.71 per hour
