Lemoncake Events is looking for a Business Development Executive to join its Lichfield team on £31,000 plus a performance related bonus. Working closely with the Business Development Manager, you will develop new commercial opportunities, build client relationships and support the growth of the business, while gaining practical exposure to how commercial decisions are made within the events industry. It is a genuine business development role rather than a high volume call centre position, and a strong move for anyone in sales, account management or another client facing job who wants to build a broader commercial and management career.
The role is office based in Lichfield initially, Monday to Friday, with the option to work from home up to two days per week once probation is completed. You do not need years of business development behind you. If you have solid commercial or client facing experience and you are confident holding a conversation and following up an opportunity, we would like to hear from you. Please check Lichfield is a realistic commute before applying.
About Lemoncake Events
We work across client projects that need strong commercial planning, account management and operational delivery, with teams working together from the initial scope through to live event delivery. For the Business Development Executive, that means learning how a prospect becomes a client, how requirements turn into commercial proposals and how different teams contribute to the final result. It is a corporate, results focused role with the variety that comes from working around events, venues, suppliers and brand partnerships.
What you will be doing
- Researching prospective clients, sectors and commercial opportunities relevant to the business
- Generating new business through outreach, networking, referrals and inbound enquiries
- Building relationships with prospects and understanding their objectives, budgets and requirements
- Arranging and attending client meetings and presentations alongside the Business Development Manager
- Preparing proposals, quotations and commercial information, and communicating requirements internally
- Following up consistently and managing a pipeline from first contact to proposal and close
- Keeping CRM records, notes and next actions accurate and up to date
- Developing existing accounts by spotting repeat business and further opportunities
- Carrying out market and competitor research to support business growth
- Working towards clear revenue and performance targets
What we are looking for
- Strong verbal and written communication, with the confidence to speak with clients directly
- Good relationship building and commercial awareness, with genuine interest in how businesses grow
- Organisation to manage several conversations, meetings and follow ups at once
- Confidence discussing requirements, handling questions and developing negotiation skills
- A results focused, target aware attitude and a willingness to learn quickly
- Comfort with Microsoft Office or similar; CRM or pipeline experience useful but can be developed
Direct B2B business development experience is beneficial rather than essential. Commercial instinct, a professional manner and the drive to develop matter more.
Transferable backgrounds we will consider
We welcome applications from people working in sales, account management, client services, customer service, recruitment, property or estate agency, hospitality, events, retail management, marketing, partnerships, lead generation, customer acquisition or relationship management. You may currently be a Sales Executive, Account Executive, Client Services Executive, Recruitment Consultant, Estate Agent, Customer Service Advisor, Sales Advisor or Marketing Executive, or a graduate with strong commercial exposure. If you have built relationships and worked towards targets, those skills translate well here.
Salary, hybrid working and benefits
- £31,000 base salary plus performance related bonus
- Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm, no weekend working
- Hybrid working of up to two days from home after probation
- Direct coaching and development from an experienced Business Development Manager
- Practical exposure to client acquisition, account development, negotiation and commercial strategy
- Exposure to a range of clients, projects, suppliers and partnerships within the events industry
- Opportunity to attend selected company and client events where relevant
- Occasional VIP access to events, concerts, festivals and sporting occasions, depending on the projects and partnerships the company is working with
- Ongoing professional development and increased responsibility based on performance
- Potential longer term progression as the commercial function grows
Business and management development
The main advantage of this position is working closely with the Business Development Manager rather than as an isolated salesperson. You will see how opportunities are assessed, how client relationships are developed and how decisions on pricing, proposals and negotiation are made.
Over time the aim is to strengthen your skills across business development, account management and commercial strategy, with growing exposure to leadership and management. As your capability develops, there may be opportunities to manage more of your own clients and commercial projects. Progression is based on performance, capability and business requirements rather than guaranteed within a fixed timeframe.
