Justteachers is seeking a dedicated, full-time 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a partner primary school in Ashton-under-Lyne starting this September. This specialized role focuses on providing tailored academic, social, and emotional support to a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Role Overview
- Position: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (ASD Support)
- Location: Ashton-under-Lyne (OL6 / OL7)
- Start Date: September 2026
- Contract: Full-time, long-term (term-time only)
Key Responsibilities
- ASD Support: Implement specific autism-friendly strategies to help the pupil navigate the school day safely and confidently.
- Routine & Structure: Utilize visual timetables, Now-and-Next boards, and social stories to manage transitions and reduce anxiety.
- Sensory Management: Identify sensory triggers and guide the pupil to quiet spaces or sensory breaks when overwhelmed.
- Communication Support: Assist the pupil with communication tools, which may include PECS or signal-based communication systems.
- Collaboration: Partner with the class teacher, SENDCo, and external speech and language therapists to meet the pupil's IEP goals.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Strong background supporting children with ASD, communication difficulties, or sensory processing needs.
- Qualifications: Training in Team-Teach, PECS, Makaton, or specific Autism Awareness certificates is highly advantageous.
- Personal Attributes: Exceptionally patient, calm under pressure, and highly adaptable to the changing emotional states of the pupil.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a new one through Justteachers.
