The Tomato Lounge is a vibrant and upcoming café and bar on Paris Street in Exeter, and we are now looking for a confident Bar Manager to help lead our team and support the next stage of our growth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys creating a great customer experience, developing a team and keeping a busy venue running smoothly.
The role covers both daytime café/bar service and evening bar trade. During the day, the venue serves food, hot drinks and alcoholic drinks; in the evening, the atmosphere becomes more lively, with late opening until 1am and live music at times. The successful candidate will be comfortable leading shifts across both styles of service.
Key responsibilities:
· Lead day-to-day bar and front-of-house operations.
· Supervise, motivate and support bar staff during shifts.
· Deliver high standards of customer service across café, bar and evening trade.
· Ensure food, hot drinks and alcoholic drinks are served safely and professionally.
· Manage stock levels, ordering, restocking and wastage controls.
· Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, health and safety standards throughout the venue.
· Support rota planning and help ensure shifts are covered effectively.
· Ensure licensing procedures are followed, including age verification and responsible alcohol service.
· Support live music nights, events and late evening operations.
· Help create a positive, welcoming and professional team culture.
About you:
· Previous bar, hospitality or front-of-house leadership experience is strongly preferred.
· Confident leading a team in both relaxed daytime service and busy evening environments.
· Strong customer service skills and a hands-on approach.
· Organised, reliable and able to make calm decisions under pressure.
· Good understanding of licensing responsibilities and responsible alcohol service.
· Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends and late finishes.
· A door supervisor licence would be highly beneficial.
· Must have the right to work in the UK.
