The company is looking for a Route Planner to join at our Tyseley Branch for a period of 10 weeks 5 hours per day - 5 days a week. Must have experience of manual routing.
Key responsibilities- Transport related duties:
- Assisting with the co-ordinating the branch vehicle delivery vehicles which includes HGV’s with HIAB cranes.
- Liaise with other managers across depots to ensure an interconnected plan is carried out across the company.
- Liaise with Yard staff to ensure the correct products are loaded onto the correct vehicles.
- Previous experience in a Logistics route planning environment
- Assist with managing driver holidays and absences and to rearrange deliveries in case of situations or emergencies.
- Dealing with individual product weights and understanding of all fleet wagons in order to ensure the correct products are loaded onto each wagon.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the West Midland region including Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Dudley and ideally other regions such as Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
- Assisting with the management of all deliveries and observing all deliveries being dispatched from the yard
- Ensuring correct routing of all vehicles to ensure efficiency whilst making sure all trucks are loaded to their maximum capacity.
- Ensuring required inter branch stock is organised onto the transport vehicles when required
- Correct organisation and filing of delivery paper and/or to liaise with other transport members to ensure paperwork is organised correctly and relayed to the correct people.
- Balance warehouse/yard workloads to ensure all vehicles are loaded in a timely manner.
- Dealing with complaints from customers in relation to delivery problems
- Deal with any breakdowns and organise relevant companies or mechanics to fix the vehicles
Compliance , an understanding of the following is required:
- Work with the transport department to ensure deliveries are carried out in accordance to road transport regulations with previous experience in liaising with drivers and the operation manager in relation to Road Transport Directive, Working Time Directives (WTD) and Drivers Hours Regulations.
- Be aware of required VOSA regulations and carry out the necessary transport compliance duties
- Assist the transport department with analyse driver/vehicle defect sheets and liaise with the truck mechanics to ensure the repairs are carried out.
- 6 weekly checks and all other required inspections on HGV vehicles
- LOLER inspections
Key skills:
- Experience within a logistics environment
- CPC an advantage
- Ability to provide great customer services in relation to transport deliveries
- Some understanding of building materials and the loading of materials
- Experience with Hiab Crane vehicles (Ideal but not required)
- High Levels of drive and energy to maximise efficiency and output in the terms of deliveries on a daily basis.
- Proven to work in a busy transport environment
- Computer literate- Experience with Microsoft Excel is essential
- Knowledge of routing software would be ideal but not essential
