Food Technology Teacher
Specialist SEMH Secondary School
West Drayton, West London
£201.01 to £298.05 per day PAYE
September Start
What if the subject you taught was not just a lesson on a timetable but a genuine gateway to independence, to confidence, to a young person discovering something they are actually good at?
For students who have found mainstream education difficult, the classroom that finally clicks is not always the one you might expect. Sometimes it is the one that smells of something baking. Sometimes it is the one where the work is practical, the results are real and the pride on a young person's face when they produce something with their own hands is impossible to miss.
If you are a Food Technology teacher who understands that what happens in your classroom goes far beyond the subject itself, this school wants to meet you.
The setting
This is a secondary specialist school for young people aged 11 to 19 with social, emotional and mental health needs a school that has built its entire identity around the belief that every young person can triumph with perseverance. The ethos here is genuine. Respect, integrity, empathy and diversity are not words on a wall. They are the lived culture of the school, felt in how staff speak to students, how students speak to each other and how the whole community approaches the business of learning.
The school occupies a purpose-built, modern building with well-equipped specialist facilities including dedicated design and technology spaces. Alongside a broad and varied curriculum, students have access to a range of therapies and a personal development programme that extends learning well beyond the classroom. This is a school that has been rated outstanding for behaviour and attitudes and that means something when the young people you are teaching are those who have most needed the right environment to find their feet.
The role
You will teach Food Technology to secondary aged pupils across key stages, in a setting where class sizes are small and the support around you is substantial. Your lessons will be practical, purposeful and connected to real life and in a school where personal development and preparation for adulthood runs through everything, the relevance of your subject is felt every single day. You will work as part of a collaborative staff team, contribute to the wider curriculum and help young people develop skills that genuinely serve them beyond the school gates.
Who this is for
This role is well suited to qualified teachers with QTS and a background in Food Technology or a related subject. You might have experience teaching in a specialist, alternative or SEMH setting, or you might be a mainstream teacher who has always felt drawn to a different kind of environment one where relationships matter as much as results and where your impact on a young person's self-belief is as important as what they produce in your lesson. What matters most is that you bring patience, warmth and a genuine belief that every student in front of you is capable of more than they currently think.
What's on offer
You will receive a daily rate of £201.01 to £298.05 PAYE, paid directly with no umbrella companies, with a September start into a purpose-built school with excellent specialist facilities. The school is part of a wider academy trust, meaning there is genuine scope for professional development and longer term career progression. You will be joining a staff team that is experienced, committed and proud of the environment they have built together.
Why this role matters
For many of the young people in this school, Food Technology is not just a subject. It is the lesson where something shifted where they stayed, engaged, produced something real and felt, perhaps for the first time in a while, that they were genuinely capable. The right teacher in that room does not just teach cooking. They give a young person a reason to keep showing up.
Interviews are taking place now and this role will not be open for long.
