Job Title: Kitchen Assistant
Reporting To: Catering Supervisor / Senior Deputy Head of Catering
A. JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
To assist in the safe, smooth and efficient running of a busy catering department.
Core Duties:
· Assist in all aspects of food service as necessary.
· Assist with the production and display of certain food items and sandwiches under the direction of the Chefs.
· Be responsible for cleaning items of crockery, service, table and kitchen equipment as and when necessary.
· Be responsible for cleaning kitchen areas as and when directed.
· Sign cleaning schedules on completion of cleaning tasks.
· Assist with the retail operation of the College as and when necessary.
· Abide by departmental rules and procedures at all times.
· Maintain high standards of Personal and Food Hygiene at all times in line with legislation and the Colleges Health and Safety policy.
· Be responsible for ensuring that correct Personal Protective Equipment is used correctly at all times.
· To handle cash in a secure manner.
· Any other reasonable duties as requested by the senior catering department staff or Catering Supervisors.
All staff have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The post holder will undertake the appropriate level of training and is responsible for ensuring that they understand and work with the safeguarding policies of the organisation.

C. OUTLINE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Salary: £12.20 per hour
Working Year/Hours: 37.5 hours per week with a half-hour unpaid meal break each day working five out of seven days on a rota basis.
Standard shift times are 07:00-15:00, 08:00-16:00, 11:30-19:30
The shift rotation includes:
· 1 weekend in 4
· 12 ‘late’ shifts (11:30-19:30) in any 8 weeks
· You will also be required to work Founder’s Day which usually falls on the first Saturday of July every year.
Paid overtime is regularly available
Holiday Entitlement: 20 days per annum. In addition, you are entitled to all public holidays together with three additional paid days holiday, which will normally be added to the Christmas holiday period. Entitlement increases to 25 days after completion of 5 years’ service. Holidays will normally be taken during the school’s holidays.

Police Clearance: The appointment is subject to police clearance as required by law for the protection of children and to compliance with proof of identity and addresses over the last five years in accordance with the stipulations laid down by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Probation Period: 6 months, with an interim review after 3 months at which time the position will be reviewed. In case of illness during the probation period, statutory sick pay only will be applicable.
