We're a busy commercial print company in Stockton-on-Tees, producing digital, screen, dye-sublimation and large-format print for customers across the region. We're looking for a reliable Machine Operator to join our Bindery (print finishing) department.
No print experience? No problem. Full on-the-job training is given. If you're practical, accurate and happy working with your hands, we'll teach you the rest.
What you'll be doing
- Operating bindery and print finishing equipment – guillotine, folding machine, laminator, creaser, binding and stitching kit
- Setting up, loading and running machines to job specification
- Trimming, folding, laminating, drilling, collating and binding printed work
- Checking output against the job ticket and quality standards, and flagging anything that isn't right
- Hand-finishing and packing work ready for despatch
- Keeping your machines and work area clean, safe and well maintained
- Working to deadlines alongside the print and despatch teams
What we're looking for
- A good eye for detail and pride in producing accurate, clean work
- Reliable, punctual and happy to work as part of a small team
- Comfortable on your feet and with the physical side of the role (lifting and handling paper stock)
- Able to follow written instructions and work to deadlines
- Willing to learn, ask questions and take on new machines over time
- Flexible on shifts and available for overtime when workloads are busy
- Print, bindery or manufacturing/production experience is a bonus, but genuinely not essential
What we offer
- Full training on all bindery equipment, with the chance to progress within the department
- Shift work with some overtime available - we offer Double Day or Triple Shift options
- 24 days holiday plus bank holidays
- 8 additional paid days' holiday on top of your standard entitlement, taken between January and September (see below for Annualised Hours)
- Workplace pension
- Free on-site parking
- A friendly, established team in a long-standing local business
Hours – annualised hours explained
We work an annualised hours system, which balances your working time across the year to match how busy the business is:
- January to September: you receive 8 extra paid days' holiday to take during this quieter period, in addition to your standard holiday entitlement
- October and November: in return, you work 8 weekend days (Saturdays or Sundays) to cover our busiest time of year. These are scheduled in advance so you know your dates well ahead
In short — more paid time off through the first three quarters of the year, in exchange for eight weekend days in the autumn. It's all paid within your annual salary, and the rota is agreed in advance.
