The Role
We are looking for an experienced and driven General Manager to lead the team at The Waterfront in Anstruther.
The Waterfront is a well-established and highly successful hospitality business comprising a busy restaurant alongside 20 guest rooms. While accommodation is an important part of the operation, the majority of our turnover is generated through food and beverage, so we are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in high-volume restaurant and hospitality management.
This is a senior, hands-on position for someone who enjoys running a busy operation, leading from the front and taking genuine responsibility for the performance of the business.
Key Responsibilities
The General Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of The Waterfront, including:
- Leading, motivating and developing the restaurant, bar, housekeeping and accommodation teams.
- Ensuring consistently high standards of food service, hospitality and guest experience.
- Managing a busy restaurant operation efficiently during peak periods.
- Overseeing the smooth running of our 20 guest rooms and maintaining high accommodation standards.
- Recruiting, training and retaining a strong and reliable team.
- Managing staff rotas, holidays and labour costs in line with business requirements.
- Monitoring sales, wage percentages, costs and overall profitability.
- Working closely with the kitchen team to ensure excellent communication between front and back of house.
- Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, presentation and maintenance throughout the business
- Ensuring all relevant licensing, health & safety, food hygiene and employment procedures are followed.
- Identifying opportunities to increase sales, improve efficiency and further develop the business.
- Maintaining the reputation and standards of an already successful and established operation.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has proven management experience within a busy restaurant, hotel or hospitality business.
- Has particularly strong experience in food-led operations.
- Is commercially aware and comfortable managing sales, staffing levels, wage costs and profitability.
- Is confident managing and developing a sizeable team.
- Has excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Can maintain high standards while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Is comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility for the day-to-day business.
- Leads by example and is happy to be visible and hands-on during busy services.
- Understands the importance of customer service and reputation within a successful local and tourist business.
- Has experience of accommodation operations or hotel management, although strong restaurant management experience is particularly important.
