We are seeking an experienced and motivated registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team in delivering high-quality pharmacy services here at Wye Valley Trust. The post holder will be responsible for both the strategic and operational leadership of ward-based pharmacy technician services, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred care, alongside a strong focus on continuous service improvement.
The post holder will lead and support a team of pharmacy technicians and support staff, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment. They will be accountable for ensuring the safe, efficient and effective use of medicines across clinical areas, working closely with pharmacists, nursing staff and other multidisciplinary team members to support optimal patient outcomes.
This role will play a key part in strengthening medicines management processes, supporting service development, and contributing to innovation in line with national standards and local priorities. The successful candidate will also support workforce development, participate in service evaluation, and help embed best practice across the service.

- To maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a registered
pharmacy technician and to comply with the GPhC Code of Ethics.
- To ensure timely and accurate medicines management at ward level.
- To monitor and support the use of automated and digital systems supporting medicines
supply and administration.
- To monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take action to resolve variances.
- To carry out final accuracy checks of dispensed medication as an Accredited Checking
Technician.
- Provide specialist technical advice to clinical teams and patients on complex medicines
management issues, including safe handling, administration and compliance with
medicines legislation.
- Act as the technical lead for ward-based pharmacy services, advising on specialist
processes such as controlled drug management, aseptic preparation and compliance with
local policies and procedures.
- Required to operate and troubleshoot automated dispensing systems and digital
medicines management tools with precision.
- To contribute to strategic planning for pharmacy services, identifying opportunities for
improvement and innovation.
- To participate in multidisciplinary projects to enhance medicines optimisation and reduce
waste.
- To implement changes in practice aligned with national initiatives (e.g. NHS Long Term
Plan, GIRFT).
