The Goethe-Institut London is looking for a Maintenance Technician to start on 15.09.2026 or the earliest possible date thereafter. This is a full-time position with a workload of 39 hours per week.
The position is remunerated in accordance with the current pay scale for locally employed staff of the Goethe-Institutes in the United Kingdom. The starting salary is £30,005.64 per annum. Annual leave amounts to 26 days plus public holidays. Key responsibilities:
General Maintenance Duties
- Monitoring of safety, functionality and cleanliness of the building and the facilities incl. guest rooms
- Point of contact for maintenance companies and any technical issues in the building
- Troubleshooting and rectifying defects, either directly or, where appropriate and after prior consultation, by calling in external companies in application of compliance rules
- Smaller decorating tasks
- Supervising the cleanliness of the outdoor areas
- Checking that Health & Safety guidelines are followed
Logistics
- Dispatching, distributing and receiving mail, parcels and larger deliveries
Events & AV Technology
- Collaborating on internal (and, where applicable, external) events
- Setting out furniture and equipment for events, classes and exhibitions in collaboration with the Events Technician
- Maintenance and regular inspection of technical equipment in the classrooms
Miscellaneous
- Ordering stationery
- General errands
- Covering for Reception Staff as required
- Covering for the Events Technician in their absence
Requirements:
- Very good technical knowledge and vocational skills acquired through relevant work experience. This includes:
- Good knowledge of sanitary facilities and the functioning and maintenance of large building heating and air-conditioning systems
- Good knowledge of electrics
- Basic knowledge of analogue and digital projection systems
- Very good mechanical skills
- Very good knowledge of and proven experience in servicing, repair and maintenance
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety
- Very good knowledge of English and knowledge of German is desirable but not essential
- Ability to handle multiple tasks where content and goals have been clearly specified; ability to carry out tasks independently and largely unsupervised
- Willingness to be flexible regarding work schedules
- Service-focused attitude towards colleagues and service providers
