JOB TITLE: Maintenance Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Includes 1-in-8 on call rota.
Role Overview
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for keeping production and facility equipment safe, reliable and operating at an optimum performance. The role combines planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive fault-finding, repairs, modifications and installations across a wide range of industrial machinery.
It is a broad engineering position requiring someone who can work across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, while also supporting production, contractors and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical maintenance
· Maintain and repair industrial production machinery and equipment.
· Reporting directly to Maintenance Manager/Supervisor
· Work on:
- Pumps and valves
- Bearings and chains
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Lathes
- Thermal oil presses
- Steam presses
- CNC routers
- Water-jet equipment
Electrical Maintenance
· Diagnose and repair electrical faults on industrial equipment.
· Work with single-phase and three-phase motors.
· Fault-find on PLCs and associated control systems.
· Carry out electrical maintenance.
· Support the wider team with electrical and control-system issues
Planned Maintenance
· Complete scheduled PPM activities.
· Inspect equipment and identify potential failures before they occur.
· Maintain machinery to appropriate operating standards.
· Help minimise equipment downtime.
Reactive Maintenance
· Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns.
· Diagnose faults and restore machinery to operation.
· Prioritise faults according to production and safety requirements
Equipment reliability and performance
· Ensure mechanical and electrical equipment operates at optimum performance.
· Support initiatives to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
· Ensure maintenance activities contribute to meeting departmental KPIs.
Key Skills & Experience
· Experience in industrial/manufacturing maintenance, maintaining machinery within a factory or production environment
· Demonstrable experience across both mechanical and electrical disciplines
· Responding to machinery failures and restoring equipment to service.
· Completing planned preventative maintenance schedules and identifying developing faults.
· Experience in CMMS internal systems
· Experienced in motors, electrical control systems, three-phase equipment and preferably PLCs
· Experienced in bearings, pumps, valves, chains, hydraulics and pneumatics.
· Working effectively with maintenance colleagues, production teams, contractors and suppliers
· Be able to also work independently take ownership of tools and equipment provided and ensure they are maintained to an appropriate standard
· Time served maintenance engineer is preferred, City and Guilds or NVQ an advantage but not critical.
· MEWP, FLT counterbalance & Welding Fabricating experience advantageous
