Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Plant Manager to support the daily operations of our anaerobic digestion plant in Hartlepool. The successful candidate will work closely with the Plant Manager to ensure optimal plant performance, adherence to health and safety standards, and effective team management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Support: To deputise for the Plant Manager in their absence. Run the site on a day to basis assisting the Plant Manager where required. To provide “hands on” support and oversee day-to-day plant operations, ensuring efficient and safe processing of feedstock into biogas.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor operational staff, fostering a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
- Man Management: Strong leadership and people management skills are essential to ensure effective supervision, motivation, and development of the team.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Health and Safety management of employees, alongside the Plant Manager. Implement and monitor health, safety, and environmental policies, conducting regular walk rounds and lead EHS activities. Observe work conditions and behaviours, provide feedback and celebrate achievements. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Performance Monitoring: Utilize SCADA systems to monitor plant performance, analyse data, and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Regulatory Liaison: Maintain effective communication with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency and Ofgem, ensuring all activities meet statutory requirements.
- Maintenance Coordination: Oversee routine maintenance schedules, coordinate with contractors, and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of plant operations, incidents, and maintenance activities; prepare regular reports for senior management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Background: A higher-level qualification in engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
- Industry Experience: Experience of anaerobic digestion is desirable or similar process led operation.
- Leadership & Management: Proven track record in managing operational teams and motivating and developing staff.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with SCADA systems and process control is advantageous. Excellent computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office suite.
- Certifications: Qualifications in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH) and environmental management are beneficial. WAMITAB Cert of Technical Competence (COTC) in AD or other waste management field preferred.
- Driving Licence: A valid UK driving licence is required.

- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop teams effectively.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Working Pattern: Monday-Sunday, 7am-5pm; 4 on 4 off shift pattern
